BJUKMB/SD 0512264 -- The Respiratory Nurse Specialist is responsible for establishing, delivering, promoting and developing a specialist Non-invasive Ventilation Nurse service for patients with respiratory conditions and sleep disorders. This hospital is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self motivated and well organised person to join a busy team. This private acute healthcare facility offering an extensive range of in-patient day case and out-patient services covering most medical and surgical specialties. The successful candidate should be confident, flexible and willing to help.
Responsibilities:
• Liaise closely and collaboratively with the Respiratory Consultants, Respiratory Laboratory Team, Nursing Team, and other multidisciplinary teams, to provide the highest possible standard of nursing care for respiratory patients.
• Act as a resource for colleagues throughout the Hospital by offering expert advice and support.
• Assist in discharge planning by ordering home ventilation and other respiratory equipment from Suppliers.
• Educate patients and families about their respiratory illness, self-management and prevention, medications, use and care of equipment and smoking cessation
• Audit the current nursing practice and implement and continuously evaluate improvements in the delivery of patient care.
• Identify service development needs annually and submit for service planning/ budgetary purposes on a planned basis.
• Be aware of research in clinical practice and at all times and endeavour to practice evidence based nursing care.
• Participate in approved data collection, clinical studies and trials as approved by the DoN and Consultants. Seek opportunities to initiate and undertake nursing research projects within the speciality.
• Publish work related to research and personal projects in collaboration with the Respiratory Consultants and the Director of Nursing
• Support patients and their families so that they have an understanding of the nature of the condition and of the implications for the patient and family.
• Be available and approachable for families when adjusting to changes in their condition and enable them to make informed decisions about their care.
• Give advice on the special needs of patients with respiratory disease and/or NIV, to other professionals and to the ERHA to assure the highest standard of appropriate care.
• Deal with psychological problems as they arise and know when to pass onto appropriate members of the multi-disciplinary team i.e. social worker, GP and Respiratory Physicians.
Requirements:
• Registered General Nurse
• 5 years post graduate experience including minimum of two years experience in the specialist area
• Recognised post registration qualification in respiratory nursing
• Must be educated to Higher Diploma/Post Graduate Diploma level or above, if not, undertake the contractual agreement to obtain a relevant higher diploma
• Smoking Cessation Course completed would be advantage
