Lead Cardiac Physiologist (Pacing) - UK
 

BJUSBM/COL/051108/02 -- This department offers a range of services including implant and follow up for biventricular pacemakers and ICD’s. In addition to implanting standard single and dual chamber pacemakers and ICD’s the department also provides a service for implantable loop recorders, biventricular pacemakers and biventricular ICD’s.
The successful candidate will be involved in providing training for students, trained physiologists, registrars and staff grade clinicians.
The post holder will be expected to rotate through external pacing/defibrillator/IABP - Independent operator, Exercise Tolerance Tests, Myoviews, Tilt tests, 24 hour Holter Monitoring - ECG and BP, Echocardiography, Cardiac catheterisation/angiography and PCI/IVUS to maintain competency and continue personal development and in-house training will be provided as necessary.


Responsibilities:
• Provide operational management and leadership for the Pacing service.
• Liaise with the Clinical Lead for Pacing Services concerning service provision and budgetary issues.
• Organise user group meetings to organise audit and resolve issues relating to the service.
• Provide clinical supervision for staff.
• Effectively deploy staff to ensure service needs are met.
• Work flexibly to cover staff shortages and personal competency.
• Monitor service delivery targets and actively work to reduce waiting times through service redesign and increased efficiency.
• Take responsibility for the efficient and effective management of physical and financial resources for pacing with the Service Lead
• Manage the ordering and effective usage of stores and equipment.
• Through the Service Lead and Procurement Team advise on the suitability and commissioning of specialist and expensive medical equipment.
• Responsible for the planning and organisation of information resources, including the storage and archiving of patient information, relevant investigative data and personnel information within Pacing
• Attend Trust, Regional and National meetings relating to issues of the pacing service provision as required.
• Contribute via the Technical Service Lead the Units’ management meetings.
• Be involved in internal and external research projects in the Unit.
• Liaise with manufacturers as required.
• Undertake any other duty in Cardiology as requested by the Service Lead.
• Responsible for service analysis and review and along with stakeholders, develop and implement a plan to develop an efficient, effective service.
• Liaise with professional colleagues, to continually monitor and review the service needs, this includes arrhythmia and heart failure specialist nurses.
• Communicate service related information and work collaboratively with the Service lead, senior managers and clinical colleagues
• Responsible for advising senior managers of the implications that national, organisational and professional initiatives/guidelines will have on the Pacing Service.
• Undertake responsibility for assessing, implementing and adapting new techniques and technologies, complying with Trust policies in relation to new clinical techniques and equipment.
• Responsible with the Service Lead for reviewing effective systems and processes for patient booking and reporting and other clerical aspects of the service for Pacing.
• Deliver competency based pacing training for staff to ensure technical competence.
• Responsible for the development and implementation of teaching and training programmes for the pacing service.
• Undertake the training and assessment of Trainee Clinical Physiologists whilst rotating through the pacing service.
• Maintain own continuous professional development appropriate to the range of cardiology services to patients.
• Comply with Trust Health and Safety policies.
• With the Service Lead, develop, implement, review and update policies and procedures for the pacing service, including clinical protocols and guidelines.
• With the Service Lead, formulate health and safety and quality assurance policies with regard to patients, staff and visitors within pacing as necessary.
• Provide and maintain required statistical information.
• Participate in audits and data collection and analysis to ensure review of service.
• Participate in research and development programmes appropriate to the department.
• Participate in the Medical Divisions incident reporting system and undertake the appropriate risk assessments.
• Liaise with colleagues nationally and regionally to maintain networks and share best practice.


Requirements:
• B.Sc. Honours degree in Clinical Physiology.
• Intermediate Life Support Certified.
• RCCP registration.
• Active membership of one of the following - BCS, SCST, BPEG, NASPE.
